Advantech announces a new series of COM modules that support the new COM 2.0 specification. The newly-introduced COM Express™ COM.0 Revision 2.0 by the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG®) takes Computer-on-Modules into a new era with smaller footprints and expanded pin-outs.

The Computer on Module specification was adopted by PICMG in 2005. In Rev. 1.0, there were a total of 5 pin-outs (Type-1 to Type-5 pin out). As new technology evolved, the market demand grew for graphic performance, more bandwidth and faster I/O interface. Recently the PICMG group officially released revision 2.0 of the COM Express standard by adding two new pin-out types Type-6 and Type-10. Type-6 is based on Type-2 which is 2 connectors. Type-10 is based on Type-1 which is one connector. Revision 2.0 has adopted new technology such as USB 3.0, digital display interface (DDI) and more PCI Express lanes, and removed old interface such as IDE and PCI.
NOTE! Rev. 1.0 and Rev. 2.0 use the same connectors and form factors, however the pin-out definitions are different and difficult to distinguish from their appearance alone. Most customers are still using Rev. 1.0 carrier boards and therefore must pay close attention when adopting Rev.2.0 COM Modules for carrier boards designed for Rev. 1.0. |

| 1. If Type 2 Rev. 2.0 COM plugs into a Type 2 Rev. 1.0 carrier boards: They should be fine except the TV-out function will not work and the SPI interface doesn’t exist on Rev. 1.0 carrier boards. |
